| John came to Canada with his parents in 1910 and lived with them on the East & West Line in Niagara Township. John went overseas with the Lincoln & Welland Regimental Band, 3rd Battalion. In England he transferred to the infantry, 98th Battalion and went to the front in France. He was blown up the day before Vimy Ridge & spent 18 months in the hospital in England. John returned to Canada in 1918. He bought a farm on the East & West Line & later worked Harry Metcalfe's farm across the road from it. He was a mail man, on RR#3, for 5 years. In 1950 John started at the waterworks in Niagara on the Lake, retiring from there as Superintendent 1968. John died from a heart attack and was buried in Niagara Lakeshore Cemetery. |
