Bob came to Canada from England in October 1919 on the S.S. Megantic with his mother and Uncle James Hare. He lived on the farm on the East & West Line, Niagara Township and attended Virgil Public School. Bob then attended Niagara on the Lake High School, graduating with honours in 1935. He excelled in sports while in High School and won the Junior, Intermediate, Senior and Grand Championships. He worked for a short time on the farm and then went to Haileybury and attended the Haileybury School of Mines. On graduation in 1938 he went to the Matachewan Consolidated gold mine in Matachewan, Ont. where he worked underground and also as a mineralogist, surveyor and assayer. While there he married Yvette David. They moved to St. Catharines in 1939 and Bob worked at McKinnon Industries (now GM Plant 1) in the lab as a Micro photographer and Chemist. He left there in 1940 and was employed as a precision grinder at Thompson Products. Bob then joined the R.C.A.F. in 1943. He trained in Edmonton, Saskatoon, Mountainview, Ont., Chatham, NB., and Summerside, P.E.I. He graduated as a Navigator Bombardier with the rank of Flying Officer. He went overseas and flew on Sunderlands with Coastal Command. Early in 1945 he transferred to Bomber Command and flew on Lancaster bombers until the end of the war. On returning to Canada Bob joined Canada Customs. He worked at all bridges in Niagara Falls and Fort Erie retiring in 1980, after 35 years. Bob was a Superintendent for 24 years. Bob also owned and operated Chippawa TV and Radio Service in Chippawa from 1947 to 1975.
Bob obtained his first computer in 1981 and that became his main interest and hobby in his retirement years. He did upgrades to his own computer as well as to computers of his friends. He did research for the family history on the internet.
